For the love of all that's holy, why? WHY!!!?????

I know I'm out of the loop and behind the curve lately. It has to do with never actually getting inside a comic shop and having a slacker supplier. Anyway I just found out that Marvel is digging up the "New Universe" from whatever maggot infested grave it's been rotting in for a series of Untold tales of the New Universe. Seems it's the 20th anniversary and they want to take a last look at the old New Universe before Warren Ellis reimagines it as a...ummmm.... New New Universe... I guess.

Why is it that while DC is revisiting one of it's greatest triumphs on it's 20th anniversary, namely THE CRISIS, Marvel is revisiting one of it's greatest failures?

Why? Because Marvel sucks, you know that.

'slacker supplier'?

That's not good...for you.

Wow.

I certainly expect unreasonable dislike of something from Dominic.

But from Delano, the reasonable thinker of the Lopez clan...this is surprising.

Why the all-inclusive statement? How does Marvel suck?

Have they never put out one single thing that you liked?

Do you not like the paper he books are printed on? Spider-man's new costume turning you off? Did some company reps kick your puppy?

To say an entire company sucks is ridiculous.

If you don't the books, that's cool. If you really hated some of them, that's okay too.

But that doens't mean that they suck.

I hate Harry Potter...tried it...DO NOT CARE FOR IT...but that doesn't mean that I think Scholastic Books sucks because they publish it...or that Warner sucks because they made movies out of the books.

I know why Dominic hates Marvel. Becaue they have consistently kicked DC's ass for the last 40 years.

And don't say Marvel is an evil empire. DC was screwing writers and artist left and right...long before Marvel had the chance to do it.

Bill, quit you whining and write a real post. Why don't you tell us how that House of M thing turned out? Was it any good? Our 2 readers are dying to know. Or better yet read some of the afore mentiond Untold Tales of the New Universe and try to convince us that they DON'T suck.

Until ROM returns, make mine DC.

Thanks for not addressing the topic.

If you want to point to a handful of titles that you don't like (and probably didn't even read [except for New Universe. You bought that up like it a miracle cure]) then I shall point out the entire decade of the 70's for sucky DC comics.

Riiiiight, cause Marvel was so great in the 70's *cough*brothervoodoo*cough*

Yeah DC 70's silver age really bites. The Hard Traveling Heroes storyline in GL/GA for example. And then there's Jonah Hex in Wierd Western Tales. What were they thinking?

Then there was World of Krypton in 1979. Didn't they pretty much invent the limited series with that?

I know what you're going to say. "That's only three examples for a whole decade." Well that's what I just came up with off the top of my head. Concider this. I started reading comics in the 70's. DC must have been doing something right during that period or I would have stopped reading them. You know, like I stopped reading Marvel when they really started to suck in the 80's.

Now, quit your bitching and write a proper post about what Marvel is doing in now in the 00's. You're not holding up your end of the blog.

You are completely missing the point of my originial coment...which isn't even directed toward you.

But that's typical.

I wasn't responding to the original point. I was responding to your ridiculous idea that 70's DC sucks.

Now shut up and blog!

and YOU still haven't addresed the ORIGINAL original poit of "why the hell the New Universe?"

DC in the 70's did suck. Sure there were a few jems (your spelling) but for the most part it was a major crapfest...and you know it.

Here's the poit (your spelling) of why the New Universe. It's called trademark refreshing. That's all. There's no other reason to do it. Nobody cares.

We won't see this crap for another 20 years.

Ummm... though I'm sure that's true, I don't think it's a very strong Marvel-doesn't-suck argument. In fact it rather supports my original point.

My original postwasn't even to you....you hard-headed argument-lover.

I was talking to Delano...who just posted that Marvel Sucks...

I was just asking him why he thought that...is it something that you just drilled into his mind when he had a skull full of mush...

OR...has he done his own studying on the matter..

I know you just HATE Marvel...
I was looking for Delano's thoughts.

JEEZ.

Bill said "To say an entire company sucks is ridiculous."

Is it then not also ridiculous to insist that a company sucked for en entire decade, especially after admiting that said decade does indeed have some gems? (And you know harping on spelling is a week argument.)

Hey wasn't it in the 70's that Batman stopped being so silly and went back to being the Darknight Detective? I guess that doesn't count either.

By the way, I'm not caliming that Marvel sucked in the 70's. Marvel didn't really start sucking until the 80's and hasn't stopped since.

Hey Bill. My initial reason for saying that Marvel sucks was an attempt to provoke some of the promised "no holds barred smackdown" that has been lacking on the site of late. This was obviously succesful.
But besides just being a provacateur, I do not care for Marvel for a number of reasons.
I dislike their misunderstanding of mutation. If it is hereditary, it is not a mutation, merely genetic variation. While this is a bit nitpicky, Marvel has been lauded for years for its supposed greater realism.
When I go in the comic store today and browse the titles, nothing by Marvel jumps out at me. It all looks rather homogenous, and similar to the rest of the field- big guns, big boobs, big muscles.
Currently my favorite books are Y; The Last Man and Human Target, both by DC. Does Marvel have anything of comparable quality? (I am not asking this rhetorically, please enlighten me.)
Finally, when evaluating the greatest comics of all time , I would include a number from DC- the Watchmen, the Dark Knight, Killing Joke, Arkham Asylum, the Dini and Ross works. What has Marvel done that fits in with this class of work? (Again, not just a rhetorical question. I would be open to suggestions.)
